1937-D Three Legged Buffalo Nickel
The 1937-D Three Legged Buffalo Nickel is one of the most famous varieties of the 20th century. It was created when a mint employee accidentally ground off the buffalo's leg in an attempt to remove clash marks from the die. With the buffalo's leg missing from the die, the result was a Three Legged Buffalo Nickel!
The popularity of the variety has made it a component of many collections for the series. It is fairly readily encountered in circulated grades, but is difficult to find in mint state and such examples drive quite a premium.
